Lily Tomlin Hung Out With Manson Killer In Jail

Actress/comedienne Lily Tomlin spent three days in the company of one of the Manson Family murderers during a prison visit.The 9 to 5 star visited a jail in California as part of her efforts to boost inmates´ morale by performing stand-up shows for them, and she was assigned a female convict to escort her around the site.After Tomlin´s performance, the woman vowed to write up a positive review of the show for the prison magazine, but it was not until later that Tomlin found out the inmate was one of the Manson Family killers, and the ´kind´ review turned out to be scathing.
Discussing her prison visits, Tomlin tells U.K. talk show host Graham Norton, "I was horrified but willing to learn and reach out. It was a miserable experience. I was escorted for three days by a young girl, who said at the end of my visit that she would write a kind review for the prison magazine. It turned out she was one of the Manson women!... I still have (the review) - it wasn´t kind enough, at least not in my book."
Charles Manson was caged for life in 1971 for organising a series of murders by followers of his ´cult´. Several members of the Manson Family were also jailed, including females Patricia Krenwinkel, Susan Atkins, and Leslie Van Houten.
