Merle Haggard Hospitalized With Pneumonia

Music veteran Merle Haggard has been hospitalized in California with pneumonia.The country star´s illness prompted him to axe plans to perform at the McCallum Theater in Palm Desert on Wednesday (02Dec15), and in Riverside on Thursday (03Dec15), and now he has also pulled the plug on his weekend (04-06Dec15) shows in Oakland and Wendover, Nevada.A statement posted on Haggard´s Facebook.com page reads: "Due to pneumonia, MERLE HAGGARD has checked into a CA hospital, forcing him to postpone his next few tour dates... However, he hopes to be well enough to play his dates in Las Vegas, NV, Beverly Hills and Lemore, CA next week. Stay tuned."
The 78 year old´s health setback emerges weeks after the start of his joint tour with Willie Nelson had to be pushed back to allow the Always on My Mind singer time to recover from stem-cell surgery to save his lungs.
Nelson, 82, recently told RollingStone.com, "Over the years I´ve smoked a lot of cigarettes, and I´ve had emphysema and pneumonia four or five times, so my lungs were really screwed up, and I had heard that this stem-cell operation would be good for them.
"So I said, ´Well, I´m gonna try it out´. But I´m still so sore that I can´t say that it was a success. I´ll have to wait until all the soreness goes away."
